Graduation Orientation 2007: Preparation Towards the Future

By Chutida Phichaiphrome, BBA#13

As four years of study begin to come to an end, the developed routine of coming to class and studying for exams may be difficult to break. Entering the workforce and venturing into the “real world” may seem foreign to many of the BBA 13’s, thus, a Graduation Orientation was organized by the BBA Program to help guide the soon to be Class of 2008 through the requirements and various aspects of the professional world.

The orientation, held at The Dusit Thani on Thursday July 19, began by addressing one of the key aspects of the job application process: the resumé. BBA Alumni Mr. Piyasak Ukritnukun walked the seniors through the key success factors that make up a successful and attractive resumé. Next, the seniors had a chance to meet and research about various prospective jobs through a company exhibition held at the orientation.

Another important aspect of a successful professional career that could be easily overlooked is dining etiquette. Ajarn Prapoch Mayura gave an extremely interesting and lively overview of the appropriate manners at the dining table which is a crucial aspect in the professional world as it is able to imply positive or negative opinions towards certain people. Ajarn Prapoch then continued to guide the seniors through appropriate manners and various do’s and don’ts during the interview process – a key factor affecting whether one is accepted for a certain position or not.

Arguably the most valuable part of the orientation came at the end where Ajarn James Fitzpatrick led a team of BBA Alumni in sharing their experiences and advice with the BBA 13’s. The alumni present ranged from BBA 3 to BBA 11. Since the BBA Program has existed for more than 10 years, the network of alumni has been built for over 10, thus the advice from the BBA alumni is considered to be an extremely valuable lesson for the future class of 2008.

The Graduation Orientation, for the BBA 13’s was considered to be extremely beneficial. We were able to get a glimpse of how the “real world” operates and what is required in order to enter and be a part of that world. We are all very thankful that this event was organized and would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who was involved in organizing the orientation especially the BBA Office, all the Ajarns, all the companies present, and every one of the alumni who graciously took the time to help guide us through the transition from being a student into becoming an adult.
