If I were to describe this competition as a sport, I would say it is a full marathon. Conducting in-depth fundamental analysis on one company to derive a stock investment recommendation is no shortcut. It comes down to one thing: be all in or get out, there is no halfway in this game.

This year, CFA Institute Research Challenge in Thailand 20162017 has never been tougher in which there are more than 140 participating students representing 17 universities from all over the country. Our team, comprised of Manocha Tantisiriwat, Pakawat Limsiri, Piyatida Wongnijasila, Wirunchana Wuttisarn, and I, Anuttri Kaewkiew from BBA 22 represented BBA Thammasat to take on the challenge.

This long-haul journey all started with the Boot Camp and Kick-off Meeting in last October when the subject company of research, Thai Union Group PLC, has been revealed. We had been given about 3 months to study the company and submit 10-page research report with no more than 20 pages of appendices by the end of the year. After all sleepless nights, thousands of hours of discussion, and the many first drafts thrown away, we managed to submit it right on time, celebrating the New Years Eve 2016.

The challenge has not ended there, as we advanced to the semi-final and final panel presentation, which were held at Stock Exchange of Thailand in February 2017. We had to condense the 3-month analysis into a single 10-minute presentation to a panel of industry professional judges and also prepare for a tough Q&A. Finally, the moment has come to announce the winning team. Just when our team name was called, as much as we felt relieved, we knew that this is not yet the finish line.

Besides all that, we would like to say billion thanks to Asst. Prof. Dr. Anchada, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pantisa, Dr. Worapong, Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapan and BBA Alumni for your valuable guidance and intensive courses from the first draft to the final presentation. Without this generous support, we would not have been able to learn from the mistakes and groom ourselves for this success.

Our next task is to represent CFA Society Thailand to compete in the Asia Pacific Regional competition, which will be held during March 14 15, 2017 in Bangkok. But, at the end, the marathon is not about running against others, it is about pushing ourselves to the limit and going beyond.
